Dream Big

 


So, I'm currently on a journey of asking deep meaningful questions, questions about life and everything in between. I use the word 'currently' but it may as well be my whole life, I've always questioned everything, but I didn't always know it to be "questioning everything". 

One of the things I'm currently questioning is 'toxic positivity' this whole notion that if you think positive thoughts, good things will fall into place. I somewhat understand that complaining or being pessimistic doesn't serve anyone. I however struggle to understand how you can't even say exactly how you are feeling without a command to be positive.

What does this have to do with today's prompt which is to Dream Big? 

For me, it's not as straightforward as taking it at face value because I question if I have the resources and infrastructure to Dream Big, in theory, I totally get it, but in practice for some of us Dreaming Big doesn't even move a needle. 

I still want to dream and to dream big and bigger, but I am also tired of fighting against systems that are designed to limit my space and ability to achieve big dreams. It's a beautiful thing that we all have the ability to dream and don't need anyone's permission to dream big, but it is a tragedy we don't talk enough about - the tragedy is that some of us need to work twice as hard for our big dreams to turn into reality (it is a multilayered issue and I'm barely touching the surface here)

So, in my questioning, yearning, and empty spaces in between, I still dream and I dream big dreams...I am carving time out to seriously dream; I believe deep inside of each of us we all have God-given dreams and our mandate on this earth is to unravel all of the dreams we have been given. It would be a shame for me to not DREAM BIG and for this reason, I promise myself to always dream big dreams for as long as I live.

Today's prompt is to simply have fun! I've ruminated on this prompt for the last couple of months because for me this command to have fun means to fully be immersed in my life, to be fully immersed in the here and now! The way I see it, we don't wait to have fun, we exist to have fun. I know that sounds abstract - what I mean is life in itself is meant to be fully lived and in so doing we can have fun. Amaze yourself

  It goes without saying that the phrase "amaze yourself" can mean different things to different people. For me, it means actively participating in my life in real time. In retrospect, it would seem the existence of my very being is an amazement. So, it is only fitting that when I searched deep inside of me I found the yearning to amaze myself has always been there and for the longest time, it was buried deep inside. Now that I know what I know, I vow to amaze myself at every given opportunity. For my birthday in 2022, I did a zipline and on that day I amazed myself at other times amazing myself will possibly look different, and I'm curious to dive into every version of what amazing myself looks like going into the future. I promise to come back to this day and remember the vow I made to always look for ways to amaze myself for the rest of my life and to be open to interrogating what else it's out there and in here when it comes to the notion of "amaze yourself...

Go places

  I recently returned from an East African trip where I enjoyed Rwandan hospitality, I took countless photos but decided to rather share this overly-exposed window seat selfie. Today's prompt is yet again apt and I love everything it holds, go places! I have always loved the idea of traveling, going, exploring, and seeing places. Growing up in the dusty streets of Mafikeng, I used to read a lot and from the books I read, I knew the world was bigger than my village. One of the countries I found fascinating from a young age and still want to see is Switzerland. But, I digress.
